“Where there is hope, every obstacle can be overcome!” Therefore, let’s bring hope for a better future to those most in need and least able to influence their own faith – the children! Welcome to the micro-site of The Rotaract Club of Shanghai’s (RACS) international community service project to renovate the operation theatre of a pediatric hospital in The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. In collaboration and with the help of numbers of overseas and local Chinese partners and donors we wish to raise 100,000 RMB (10,500 EUR) to give a better future to more than 1,2 million children in the South Pyongan province of DPRK. - RACS DPRK Team |
DPRK Info
North Korea, officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), is a state in East Asia, occupying the northern half of the Korean Peninsula. Its capital and largest city is Pyongyang. The Korean Demilitarized Zone serves as the buffer area between North Korea and South Korea. The Amnok River and the Tumen River form the border between North Korea and People's Republic of China. A section of the Tumen River in the extreme north-east is the border with Russia. It is a country of vast and unexplored natural beauties, a lovely and caring population and a great history going back more than 5000 years. Archaeological evidence suggests that the Korean peninsula has been inhabited for over 500,000 years. Since the first written records appeared, the Korean population contributed greatly to the cultural heritage of mankind with its a highly sophisticated tea-culture, modern and traditional performing arts, music, arts & crafts, ceramics and Opera. The DPRK tends to be more traditional in following the customs of the Korean Peninsula, so if one is really interested in Korea how it once was, the best place to find this is in the Northern part.
